Windows Upgrade and Hardware installation on a old Dell Latitude laptop?
Question by 11tanm@sbcglobal.net: Windows Upgrade and Hardware installation on a old Dell Latitude laptop?
I have a Dell Latitude laptop – I have no idea what version it is. It was not mine, but I got it when my friend got some laptops that Pfizer were giving out for free to its employees and gave me one. It runs Windows 2000 and was working just fine with Internet connections when I plugged in the wire but when I reinstalled 2000, I couldn’t make any more Internet connections and I couldn’t install find anything on the computer that could install, besides sound and video graphics. Now, I would like to install Windows XP on the laptop but I’m not sure if I could reinstall 2000 if I didn’t like XP. Additionally, by installing XP, would it recognize and automatically install any hardware on the laptop?

I need help! If there is a solution to my problem without having to make hardware purchases, please mention- it would be greatly appreciated.
