I’ve been fixing my laptop one part at a time lately trying to get it working like new…
So far I’ve replaced the:
Motherboard, HDD’s, Sound Card, and Wifi Card/Antenna. Along with the new keyboard too.
Still my computer comes on automatically when it’s plugged up and there is no picture at all.
I have an Alienware m9700 with dual nVidia 7900 GS 256MB graphics cards.
Any ideas?
More Info:
My computers graphics cards are not soldered in, they actually are plugged into a slot like most laptop memory is then screwed down.
My computer is plugged in the the power supply that came with it when I got it. ( I got it from Alienware not a third party)
When I turn my computer turns on by itself when I plug it in, It has nothing, just a black screen. No startup, no bios, nothing
I’ve replaced them on at a time, because their counterpart was messed up. I’ve tested each of the cards, and one of them produces a series of lines then goes to black, the other produces nothing, both together produce nothing.
The backlight is working, it comes on, the nothing else shows up

Wow… lots of replacements.
I’d say it must be something with the Video Card… are you sure it is in correctly? – also on Laptops, the vidcard is soddered in– is it soddered correctly?

What does your computer get plugged up with?
When you say “there is no picture at all”, what does that mean? Do you see the information before the Windows scrolling screen? Do you get prompted for username/password? Does the picture disappear after you log in?
Can you boot into Safe Mode?
Did you really solder in a new video card, or is that running through USB?
No picture? You sure the backlight is working?
Have you changed these all at once, or individually? Replaced one item then booted up, put original item back in and replaced another item, etc?
