The fan on my laptop broke. Why did this happen and how do I prevent it from happening again?

I heard that it could be caused from overheating but I’m no expert at computers. The laptop is only a couple months old. If you have any suggestions on why it broke and if there is something I could purchase to prevent it from happening again let me know.

Overheatng did not cause your fan to break. Your computer overheated BECAUSE your fan broke.
What caused the fan to break? Normal wear and tear, and not keeping it clean. You keep it clean with can of compressed air, and cleaning it and the cooling channel every 3 months. With the laptop off, you use short bursts into the EXHAUST first. Then you use a small tool like a dental pick or a bent paperclip to reach into the fan to pull out the large chunks of dust that you see… then you use short bursts to blow into the INTAKE, or right into the fan itself. You repeat this procedure. Doing that every 3 months will keep it clean. It will also keep dust from building up against the leading edge of the cooling fins that are between the fan and the exhaust… blocking air from passing through the fins themselves.
Also, if you ever used the laptop on a soft surface, this would have shortened the life of the fan significantly, as it would block any air from going into the fan, making the fan work that much harder.
End of line
You need to buy one of those heat extractors they sale them on wal-mart every laptop needs one their not that expensive mine cost me $19.95.
