Question by Mark C: What is the proper size portable generator to run a small RV?
I have a small weekender quarters in dressing room of horse trailer (ie Roof mounted AC, few 110 volt plugs 4ft florescent light) and am looking to add a portable generator and don’t know how many watts I need.

Most AC’s will require around 30amps to run correctly. Too little amperage can damage your AC and is hard on other electronic devices such as TV’s, computers, microwave etc. I’d recommend at least one that is rated 3500 to 4000. Specially if your hot water heater uses 120 volts while camped (if it can be used on LP then you could get away with a 3500 generator. If you have or can convert your lighting to 12 volts and don’t use your AC at all, you could get away with a generator rated at 1000 just to keep the batteries charged.
