Depends on the laptop but its usually pretty easy. If you flip your laptop over, on the bottom you'll likely see a small square shaped panel with a screw or two holding it in place.

With the battery REMOVED, open that panel and you'll see the DIMM sockets located beneath it.

If you dont have any panels like that, you'll have to consult your manufacturers website to find out how to gain access to the DIMM slots... sometimes its a pain but still not very complicated.

I have a sony "ultra-light" that's really slim and, rather than an easy access slot, to change the HD or RAM I actually have to remove the keyboard and then take the whole case apart which is a huge pain.

Look in the manual, it tells you what to buy, what the RAM max capacity is for your computer, and step by step how to do it. On my notebook it was under the keyboard and I did it easily. Sometimes there is a compartment on the back as well.

It's very easy.
You should have a removable flab on the bottom of your laptop, specially for the RAM.
Should be 2 slots.

Easy as pie...literally.

Easy as pie, the board just slots in and it can only go one way, so youd have to pretty dim to stuff it up.

Most of the time there will be a little thing (like a remote control battery holder)

that you pop open and just switch out the ram.

It also depends on if you have DDR or SD.
or the speed of your ram.

It's always best to go with what your current ram speed is.
You can normally find the ram speed by looking on the ram chip it's self.
