Am I entitled to a new laptop if PC World broke mine?

Question by Jonny_Boy: Am I entitled to a new laptop if PC World broke mine?
Hey. PC World today have broken my five year old Acer TravelMate 2350. It just does not boot. By law in the UK am I entitled to a new one?

Thanks,
Jonathan.
I took it there because I had trouble putting in a wireless card.

Depends, why did you take it there, can guarantee that there’ll be a clause saying they are not responsible for any damage after repair.

No. If you can PROVE that something they did caused the laptop to fail (and of course assuming it’s truly irreparable), then you are entitled to the depreciated value of the unit. For a 5 yr old Acer, that’s practically nothing.
