You could choose any of the major brands which are available but the
unit may need repair sometime and the lesser known brands may not be
easy to get parts for. Dell, IBM/Lenovo, HP/Compac, Sony and even Appleare good brands. The features to include are wifi or wireless modem, DVD reader (burner not usually needed) 1gigabyte of memory and at least 50gb of hard drive. Avoid the Celeron CPU chip as it lacks
level 1 memory, and it’s counterpart in AMD which is called Turion. I use
the IBM T41 (not the latest model) as it is built well and can take a lot
    of abuse.

The first choice is size. Currently laptops are available in full size with 13″+ to 17″ screens and range in price from $500 to $2000. Their are Dells, Compaq, and many other brands available at stores like Best Buy and Circuit City.

If you want something smaller, you probably need to shop online, and these are smaller much more portable devices, which work well for in class notes and carrying every day. They won’t do as well for big projects and often compromise on features to fit into the smaller form factor. Asus has a complete line of EEE which are very small and reasonably priced entry level laptops.

That’s good! your child is going to enter college soon and he really needs a laptop with good specifications. If you need any kind of accessory related to laptop, you will find it and on best price as well.

An Apple computer they are amazing! You can do anything on it! I have an apple and currently attending a university they all have wifi built in and some have cameras built in. You can make videos or a business template so if your child changes his or her mind they are set.

Buying a laptop is a complicated decision which will affect you every day for the next few years.

In addition to price and specs, you want to consider things such as ease-of-use, speed, reliability, stylish-design and tech-support.

Different people would have different opinions.

Therefore, I would recommend you to check ProCompare.com (http://procompare.com). They have a recommendation engine that ranks laptops and other tech products based on ratings and reviews from a community of trusted IT professionals. They also have a cool personalization slider that lets you personalize the results based on the criteria that are most important to YOU.

Hope you’ll find this answer useful…
