The laptop powers on just fine and if I shine a light directly on the screen I can make out my desktop but its nothing I can use for everyday use. Can I fix this issue myself? Any help or info would be much appreciated!!!

Sounds like your LCD Screen’s almost dead. 90% of the time we had this problem (@ Dell Tech Support), the LCD screen needed to be replaced. I pray that you still have warranty on this laptop. It also could be a loose LCD cable, but chances for that are very slim. I’d suggest you call Dell Tech Support.
In the meantime, if u have a desktop computer and want to use your laptop, you can connect the monitor to your laptop and press Fn+F8 to switch the display to see your laptop contents on the monitor.
