Problem with Insignia Portable DVD Player?

Question by Safeeya: Problem with Insignia Portable DVD Player?
I have an Insignia Portable DVD Player, not sure what model but i could check if needed. Anyway i bought it December 06′ so it’s roughly 1 1/2 yrs old, it has worked great and i can’t say i’ve ever had any real problems with it, it reads all types of discs perfectly and is used almost daily. Recently however it stopped reading dvd’s and was only reading cd’s for a few days and then it stopped reading any discs at all now, it turns on fine and the disc is spinning most times but it simply says no disc on the screen…
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this and if it makes sense to have it repaired or should i simply purchase a new one?
Please don’t just say it’s not working because i know that already…
Ok so quick edit…

I purchased a lense cleaner this morning to no avail. This did not help at all as the disc was spinning but was not being read by the player, it again said no disc…

its fixable, the problem seems to be in the program reader. (its the little blue or red glass light thing in the middle that moves up and down) it seems like something inside it is messed up. maybe the wires make it not function right and make it not able to read discs. if it says no disc is in then it means that its not the dvd player thats broken, its the disc reader.

so have it checked out, also you can open it up and see if any wires got ripped a little (happened to me)

    The problem is it’s Insignia,
I would get a new one.

    OR…
clean the lens with clean cloth?

The first thing to do is to clean the lens that the laser shines through. Your problem sounds very much as if a dirty lens is the problem.

Before throwing it away, you might want to invest $ 10 in a cleaning disk (maybe less, but don’t pay the $ 20 that Best Buy and Circuit City want you to pay for them — look around).

Clean the lens and if you’re lucky, things will be back to normal. If you’re unlucky, you could ask around about repairs, but these days, repairs are usually breath-takingly expensive.

My advice would be to go for the simple fix and, if it doesn’t work, get a new one.
