First off my condolences for having a Compaq. If it does not turn on , doesn’t sound like you can do much. Can u start it up safe mode? if u can’t at all , get it to shop and see if u can get the hard drive out . next get large hammer and smash to a million pieces. After that Get a MAC.

Here is the thing. You own a Compaq, they have been known to just crap out after awhile, so you can’t be 100% on your virus theory. I would bring it into a local computer place to see if they can fix it. Chances are, it just died.

It won’t turn on as in, you push the button and nothing happens? Virus’s cannot do that, they require the system to be on. If thats the case, it sounds like a powersupply problem. I don’t understand how something can crash if you can’t turn it on.

If your laptop does not turn on, then it probably isnt a virus. check your battery and ac adapter to make sure the laptop has power.
If it turns on but does not boot up windows, then call hp tech support because they know their own diagnostic codes better then anyone else on this community.
If it does boot up and you just missaid that statement, then goto malwarebytes.org and download the free version of malwarebytes. It will scan and should remove your virus. do a quick scan if your computer crashes randomly because the scans take a long time.

    Hope this helps!

—> Download an anti-virus program on your Windows XP computer system. Visit the Symantec homepage and choose a suitable anti-virus program from its available selections. A few examples include the Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security and Norton 360 applications. If you’d rather not pay for an anti-virus program, there are several free versions available. Avast and AVG Anti Virus Free are two commonly used virus detecting programs compatible with Windows XP computer systems.

—> Launch your anti virus program. Within a few seconds, the program will begin the process of analyzing every selected area of your computer system. Choose your computer’s main hard drive, external hard drives and any removable storage devices that are directly connected to your existing computer system. Every file will be scanned to determine if it’s a legitimate file or a harmful virus.

—> Follow the directions of your anti-virus program when a virus has been identified. You’ll have the option of moving this contaminated computer file to a secure virus vault located within your anti-virus program. This will help to eliminate this virus from further spreading around your computer system and infecting the entire hard drive. Another option provided by some anti-virus applications is to delete the virus. Click the “Remove” button and the program will work to get rid of the virus from your computer system.

—> Reboot your Windows XP computer system after following the steps of isolating or removing a virus. Once your computer system has become fully operational, you’ll need to perform another virus scan using your current anti-virus program. Doing this will confirm that the virus has been completely removed. If after running another virus scan you discover that the virus is still on your computer’s hard drive, professional computer services may provide you with a better solution for your infected computer system.

—> Take your Windows XP computer system to a professional with the proper tools of getting rid of a virus. They’ll have access to multiple applications to fix your most difficult computer problems. A computer specialist can also provide you with helpful tips about avoiding future virus infections. If you have a large amount of sensitive data on your Windows XP computer system, schedule regular visits to a computer professional to perform maintenance on it.
