Just bought a new dell, looking for a virus protection program to purchase online before I use it. What programs have you had the best luck with? What do you recommend?

AVG Antivirus or McAfee Internet Security Suite.

Use AVG, it’s good and free too.
Ask the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They give free comp advice and they are the best ppl to ask.
i would use norton, but along with a firewall..zone alarm is one of the best firewalls. remember firewalls prevent viruses, antivirus catch them after they are already there.
McAfee or Norton. You may want to try AVG or Zone Alarm. There is quite a number.
Most businesses and government agencies use Symantec Antivirus (not Norton Antivirus). Stay away from McAfee. They released definitions about 5 months ago that caused McAfee to delete most everything on your computer thinking it was a virus. What did they say to you if this happened?? “Oops, sorry bout that, your fault if you didn’t have a backup.”

I have used several for many years for my personal computers, the company I work for and the business I own. They included Symantec, Panda, Mcafee and Trend Micro. The best protection I have seen so far has been Trend Micro. It protects your system, your wireless network, other systems on your network and a host of of other things. It also has email virus protection and anti-spam. It will also do spyware protection but I find Webroot’s Spyware to be the best product for that.
I know this is just repeating other answers, but go for the AVG. I’ve had it for a good while now and I really like it. Don’t forget your firewall (Zone Alarm is good), and anti-spyware (Spy Sweeper is also good). I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of the Kim Komando radio show (it’s about computers, electronics and all kinds of digital stuff), but if you log on the her website (komando.com), you can download everything you need, and a bunch of other stuff you might want to have.
I use all freewares on my HP pavillion laptop.
