sounds like a bad hard drive. can you get into bios? or can you boot itno safe mode? (hold f8 when booting) i would say that is the problem though. failed hard drive
you should get a mac pro. they don’t mess up as much as hps
relode the hole computer if that doesent work then its proboly the hard drive
you screwed up by not buying a macbook
make sure you havnt got a floppy disk in first of all….
then check to see if you can boot into safe mode.
do this by pressing F8 on boot up (i think with dell)
get back with details …
Date and time not set usually means the CMOS battery is defective and needs changed. Once you have a new battery and correct the BIOS settings the other problems should go away.
you should call the help hotline, it usually gives you a number on the box of ur laptop.

i have a laptop but i dont know your problem maybe you should get a new one vista is good i have it and ive had no problems with it and ive had it for a year……… good luck :)
I think you get stuck at BIOS.
Go to BIOS (CMOS setup) and see both Hard Drive and CD/DVD diver are detected. (If Hard Drive is missing, your Hard Drive is something wrong. Buy or borrow another Hard Drive and install it.)
Then go to boot sequence and change the first boot to CD/DVD to boot from your Windows XP CD.
If your Windows XP CD has no error, you should be able to boot from CD and install Windows XP.
