Laptop battery problem…. I cant turn it on by using the battery but i can turn it on by using ac power…?

Question by brianbatayola: Laptop battery problem…. I cant turn it on by using the battery but i can turn it on by using ac power…?
is the battery dead?
can a laptop still be used if the battery is dead?
do i have to buy a new battery or is there any other way? like battery connection problem maybe which i can solve..

hope you guys could help…

sounds like a dead battery.

But you can use it plugged into the wall socket just fine.

Take out the battery and look at the contacts, both on the battery and on the inside, where they connect to the computer. If they look dirty, clean them gently with a pencil eraser.

usually when a battery starts to go, you can tell by how long it will run on a charge. Last time I had to replace mine, that time went from 5 hours to 1 hour.

It probably is not the charger circuitry in the notebook, as then you wouldn’t be able to start it at all.

I’m assuming you did try letting it charge overnight?

    This might be obvious and lame.. but have you charged the battery? Leave the thing on and plugged in for awhile and then see if it will charge up w/out being hooked up.

    First check if the battery is charging.You should be able to do this via Control Panel –> Device Manager

    If its not charging it MAY be the AC adapter is not supplying a high enough voltage via the transformer Swap it out with a good power adapter and see if it makes a differnece.If not then check the battery condition by going to :-

    If the battery is too flat to recharge you may have no alternative but to replace it There are ways to revive some cells in laptop batteries but its not a job for DIYers.Get a price on a reconditioned battery.

    If the battery is no longer charging then you are stuck with AC only unless you get a replacement battery.

    Yes it appears as if your battery is dead. It may need charging up or if it won’t take a charge then you need to buy a new one. Your laptop can still be used on AC power. Try cleaning the contact points on the battery and the laptop.
