Why can’t I play some DVDs with the same Region Code ????????????
Question by Caitlin™: Why can’t I play some DVDs with the same Region Code ????????????
I originally come form Australia, meaning my DVDs are all set to Region 4. I moved to Germany, and there is Region 2 here. On our home DVD player (bought in Germany) which is connected to the TV, I can play about half of my Region 4 DVDs, but when I insert the other half (not all at once, of course !!! ), it says ‘Wrong Region’. I got a portable DVD player for Christmas (also bought in Germany), and the same thing happens too. I am beginning to think that the DVDs have a problem, and not the player. Is there anything I can do to fix my problem with the DVDs, without spending money ?
Please help !!! :S
On ALL of the discs (both halves ) it says ‘Region 4′.
(So a ’4′ with a little globe around it.)

It probably is the player. I know you said half of the region 4 dvds work but it is possible that the company that made the dvds did not put the region coding on. Is your dvd player multiregion. If you google your dvd player make and model with the word “multiregion” or “region hack” at the end you can probably find instructions to make it multiregion – usually its just a sequence of buttons on the remote, it varies for different makes and models.
You could try here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
or here: http://www.dvdhacks.co.uk/
to see if there is instructions for your player. Good Luck!

I agree.
Many DVD’s are made for more then one region, so the 1st half could be regions 4 AND 2, and so the German player plays them, but the other half of your DVD’s could be region 4 only, and so the German player refuses to play them.
