Q&A: Please help me fix my laptop’s safe mode?
Question by Bilaft: Please help me fix my laptop’s safe mode?
While trying to access a restoration point on my laptop, I got an error message saying that my Local Disk had been corrupted. I tried loading my computer in safe mode, to run a disk check, and it got stuck at “\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys”. I shut it down and restarted it in normal mode and it worked perfectly fine. Yet, once again when I tried to boot in safe mode for a disk check it stalled at the same place. It’s not really a problem. Right now my computer works fine, but because i can’t boot in safe mode, i can’t fix the disk corruption. Since I can’t fix the disk, I can’t use the system restore function. My laptop came pre-installed with Windows Vista, so I don’t have an installation disk for it. Also, until recently I’ve had no problems with it. Nothing I’ve tried has worked to fix the issue, any suggestions?
I’ve tried Chris G’s solution before and It doesn’t work. It just tells me to schedule a disk check for the next time I restart the system and when I do restart it doesn’t even run the scan.
I’ve also tried the sfc /scannow technique. It was the second thing I tried to do and It didn’t work. I’ve literally tried everything I could think of.

Open up Computer, right-click on the C: drive icon and click on Properties. Click on the Tools tab, and then on Check now under Error-checking. Make sure Automatically fix… is checked and click ok. You will need to restart the computer for this check to happen. It could take a while if there are lots of corrupted file table entries. You may also like to check Scan for…bad sectors, but this will take much longer.
Additional:
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Try running the System File Checker. Open up a command prompt — Start → Run… type in cmd and hit OK — and at the prompt, type:
sfc /scannow
and hit the Enter key. You do click OK to scheduling a repair scan, presumably? It should run when you shut down fully and restart, not sleep or hibernate.
