Broken laptop keyboard?!?

Question by Chocolatkitti: Broken laptop keyboard?!?
I have a Samsung N150 and three of my keys are messed up. The Caps Lock and “R” haven’t worked since I accidentally spilled toner in my keyboard, and the B… well, it’s sort of a long story, but anyway, it’s just the hinges that are broken… and the tiny metal things that hold them in place are kind of… bent. And the cup came off. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

a few things you might try, besides getting a new keyboard (and i’m now sure where you would.. could try the manufacturer)

for the bent hinge socket: bend it back. (best done carefully with some precision pliers)
not sure what you mean by the hinges are broken: if they’re separated, they fit together like puzzle pieces. if coupled correctly, it should open & close flat. it it’s really broke, there’s nothing you can do with that unless you’re really good with small things (and maybe superglue). (if you were, i don’t think you would have posted here, though, so maybe try & find someone who is)
for cleaning the toner: fixing that would require you to remove those keys & clean it off with a damp cloth
you may need a small tool, such as a precision flat-blade screwdriver, a paperclip, or even a toothpick.
removing the key is easy enough: just gently bend the plastic piece away from one of the the sockets. once one is off, the rest is pretty easy
for putting it back on: extend the ‘x’ to as far open it as it goes, and get the center-most hook on the matching spot on the keyboard. consider using the small tool to hold the opposite side out to keep the ‘x’ out. second, use the tool to hook one of the other end to the matching hole on the board, and the same for the other side.
depress the key (lightly) a few times to make sure that it works
