Question by David A: My Dell Laptop is having a problem with its power source. Help please ?
Just today my laptop gave me this message:
“The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge.”

Take it to a computer technician for some TLC.

try to charge your dell laptop with someone else’s dell charger.
if the problem still exists then there is no problem with your charger it’s the problem with your battery.
if your computer is still in the warranty period then dell will replace your battery with out any charge. they will send you a new battery very next day.
go to the support.dell.com and check your warranty status.
and then talk to a dell technician and call the dell guys.
explain your problem.
they will ask you several questions to determine that the problem is with your battery or it is with your charger.
and depending on your computer condition (battery and charger) and obviously on the warranty condition they will send you the new 6-9 cell battery.
I think that your power pack is gone. I have 2 dells that had the same probem.
I took them to a local computer tech, and they told me that Dell has a unique power plug (on the laptop) and it has a life of 3 years or so. After it breaks, usually getting looser and looser, you HAVE to send it back to Dell. They dont sell them so that Ma and Pa computer shops can repair Dells. So be Cautioned if so one can fix it, although, you may want to have them diagnois the problem.
However for my other Dell, I went to Ebay and bought another pwer adapter. It has been working just fine.
ha ha i had this problem. I went for a chat with someone on dell and he managed to break my laptop further. It seems it was either the
Adaptor
The battery
The BIOS.
I had to in the end flash my BIOD and then reinstall windows for it to take the message away unfortunately. I would say in this case take it to a technician some were i usually say do it your self but Dell hardware seem to get worse the more you touch it so i would get some more help from some one who can actually see the laptop.
However maybe go and chat to a dell person and see what they say. They are usually pretty good over the online support but not as much through email
