PC Club has my laptop. I just heard they filed for bankruptcy. Is there a way to get it back? Thanks!?

Question by Starcrystal: PC Club has my laptop. I just heard they filed for bankruptcy. Is there a way to get it back? Thanks!?
I stopped by a PC Club store a few weeks ago and dropped off my laptop for repair. They told me they shipped it to their repair location in L.A. and it would take several days to get it back. They finally repaired it, but they had to send it back because they broke a panel during shipping, and said it would take a few more days to get it back again.

After I hadn’t heard from them again, I called yesterday and today to see what was going on and there was no answer. I’ve looked online to see if I can contact them, but I can’t find a way. I just read that they closed their doors yesterday and they filed for bankruptcy. Now I’m out $ 100 and a laptop. I don’t know where they shipped it for repair. Does any one know how I can get my laptop back? What can I do? Thank you so much!
Thanks for your answers. :-) I’m gonna try your advice. I haven’t gotten it back yet. I’ve called the numbers but I just get the answering machine too. I’ll let you know if I find anything out. Good luck to you too! And please let me know if you find a way to get yours back!! :-) Thanks again.

I have no idea, but the laptop still belongs to you. That’s an important distinction in bankruptcy, because anything else will be seized and sold by the creditors. It looks to me like they’re still in business, but web sites can be misleading. Try the link below, maybe it will provide insight.

Did you get your laptop back yet? I have the exact same problem as you. I took my laptop in for repair, they sent it to LA, it was fixed, they sent it back to the local store, and the day I went to pick it up (Tuesday) the store was closed. My local store (Bakersfield, Calif.) is closed up. The PC Club number, 888-972-2582, website http://www.pcclub.com, is just rolling over to the answering machine. A friend of mine said if you can find out where the Chapter 7 bankruptcy is filed, that you can attach a claim and you will be among the first to be paid if it goes to Chapter 13. So now I have to find out where the bankruptcy was filed. Let me know if you find anything out. Thanks!

We had a similar problem. My wife left the computer there while she went to lunch. When she got back, she found the store closed. She had only been gone an hour and a half.

She got a hold of someone at the 888-9PCCLUB number and they said that the Santa Clarita store’s entire contents will be removed on Aug 5th and sent to their HQ’s in LA. From there they will look over all the customer’s PC, and send them back to the customers overnight. That’s we were told, so we’ll see. If that’s the case, we’re hoping to have our computer back in a week or so. I wish you all luck with this. It’s a shame they couldn’t give customer’s with equipment there any kind of notice. We even talked to a guy who works there, who was off that day. My daughter’s call asking him what went on was his notification.

This is an unfortunate turn of events and is affecting a lot of people. People that were having systems worked on will be able to get their property back from PC Club after someone has sorted through everything in the stores and can figure out what are PC Club assets and what are customer property. Because this was a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, all of the assets of the company will need to be sold of to pay off the creditors the company had, but they have a legal obligation to return person property that doesn’t belong to them. Keep calling or emailing PC Club’s HQ and you will find out what to do eventually.
People that had store credit or deposits on machines to be built may have a lot more trouble as the company was completely out of liquid assets the day they shut down the store. Over time those customer’s may be able to recover their losses, but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was them. The employees got stiffed on their vacation time, sick time, and had their health insurance canceled even though money had been taken from their paychecks.

As an employee I’m very sad about this, not just because I’m out of a job, or because I really liked working their, but because I know I made an effort to build relationships with my customers and now I feel like I’ve let them down.
