Q&A: Is my WD passport broken?

Question by DarkWhiteEverything: Is my WD passport broken?
I own a portable external Hard drive. It recently stopped working. The light on the side is still lights up and i can hear/feel it working when i first plug it in but it won’t show up under My Computer.

I haven’t dropped it or done anything extreme to it. I’ve recently changed computers, could this have something to do with it?

I have all my music, pictures, and video in it. Does this mean I’ve lost all of it? Can i still retrieve the data or better yet have it fixed?

There are no error messages, from what I found on google most people had issues with the computer not recognizing their passports. My computer had. But now it simply won’t show up under My Computer or Computer Management.

Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be sincerely appreciated.
The drive is not more than a couple months old. i bought it in May of this year. I’ve tried it on two computers, same result.

The warranty, did i have to mail it in? Or can i just call and give them the product number?

Try…

… using a different USB port…
… using the drive on a different computer…

There could indeed be an issue with the drive. WD drives come with a 3 year warranty, so depending on the age of the drive, you may have reached the end of it’s life.

end of line

    Hi, there

If your WD drive is still within the warranty, take your drive to Western Digital service center. And if the file loss or drive failure is by your fault, Western Digital may charge you a lot of bucks to restore your deleted files.

As a matter of fact, the most efficient way to restore deleted files on your Western Digital hard disk drive is to try some recovery programs.
