I am getting a new laptop with a DVD burner, do I need software so I can burn DVDs?

Question by limp noodle: I am getting a new laptop with a DVD burner, do I need software so I can burn DVDs?
I haven’t received it yet, so I don’t know if it comes with it or if I have to buy software… it is a dell XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 and it says that it comes with a 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive and also Roxio Creator Basic, does that include DVD burning? I am not really computer knowledgeable, so any response would be helpful, thank you!

I’m pretty sure you can use Roxio to burn DVD’s. I haven’t used it, but I have heard a lot about it. You can also use Windows Media Player or iTunes to burn DVD’s, but I’d imagine it’s not as good as software like Roxio or Nero.

if you have windows vista you can burn anything on it.but i suggest that you need to get Nero bec. it’s so easy to burn and faster,it’s the best software for burning cd’s or dvd’s.

I got it along with the system, So I think it would come along with ur installation package. Use Nero if ur using windows, and K3b for ubuntu (linux version). There are lots of free software available if ur using linux OS, u can download from net
