i have had an ongoing issue with BF2 and windows vista. i have fixed it enough up to the ability to play bf2 singleplayer only. my issues is that for some reason i cannot update my bf2 with the 1.41 patch on vista. i have a new rig with windows vista. my old rig was win xp home edition.
the patch will appear to install, but after the instal and i go to play multiplayer, bf2 tells me its not updated. i can also tell by the red colored servers that show up.
i have search the net long days and nights enough to know that i cant find an 1.41 patch update that will allow me to choose the location to install. ( BF2 wouldnt install in my “Program Files(x86) folder”, so i directed it to the regular “Program Files” folder and it installed properly. I think the patch installs to the my documents area because i cant find the update in either Program Files Folder.
So here is the solution i propose and i would like to know from one of you computer wizzes that is a hardcore gamer like me ( i started and ran a clan for 8 years starting back in 1999…clanseven… with games like Q2, Q3, SOF1, SOF2, CSS ) if this would work..
i copied the entire BF2 folder from my win xp system, to my portable hard drive ( my computer> c: >program files>EAGames>Battlefiled 2) and i want to paste it over the vista version…
vista folder size: 1.99g
xp folder size 2.05g
i feel im pretty much advanced with computers but i wont do something if i deffinately dont know how to do it or if it will not work.
please advise…
please only someone who 100% understands my situation need reply.

Ha ha, I had EXACTLY the same problem. You need to run BF2 in compatibility mode for Win XP and tick the administrator run in thingy. If you then uninstall your patch, download a fresh one, and try to reinstall it. Vista is a right pain huh? It’s taken me a year to get used to it.
