What is the best anti virus software to get?
I am getting a new Dell laptop. I am spending about $ 1,400 on it and want to make sure it last and remains fast. I want to get a good anti virus software for it but don’t want it to slow my computer down, but I do want it to fully protect my laptop from viruses and hackers. I am willing to pay money for it so whatever the best anti virus there is is what I want. I will have windows 7 professional on it as well.

Question by Prudential: How to make sure my laptop is virus free?
Now heres the deal. My dad quit his job 3 years ago and they let him keep his dell laptop. My brother has been using it for the past year and he just gave it to me last week cause he moved away. I know he looks up porn on a site called pornhub cause ive seen it open on the laptop several times. I know those sites can infect computers with terrible viruses. The computer hasnt been protected with anti-virus software for 2 years.I just earlier installed a thing called spybot search and destroy and it did a full scan and found 12 problems which it APPARENTLY fixed. I just want to make sure nothing else is infected and that all my dads infornmation is secure, without telling him. As soon as thats done, i will tell him i would like to get an antivirus software such as macafee.
I havn’t noticed anything strange like a virus but i know that you can’t always tell. So whats the best way i can be sure everything is ok and my computer is fine? It has to be free

Question by Britta.: DELL LAPTOP help!!! Virus?
I have a one year old dell inspiron 1720 laptop and for a few months it has been weird and does these disc checking things. It goes through all the files on my computer and says it’s scanning them? I don’t know what any of it means! Now when I start it up and I type my password in to log in it just says welcome and after a while it will just freeze. I can’t get into it unless I use safe mode. I haven’t been on anything I shouldn’t have! I don’t know how I could have gotten a virus but I don’t even know if that’s what it is!! Please help me! The last few times I have logged on, it has frozen, the screen has gone black and it then says something about security or password or protection being wrong or denied then it goes back to whatever I was doing but it’s still frozen then black again etc etc.. Help me please please! If I have to take it to a computer guy, do you have any idea how much this might cost?
Thank you in advance!
If it helps, I have windows Vista installed. Also, I have done virus scans with Trend Micro which I have installed and Windows Defender but nothing comes up when I do a quick scan although when I do full scans it freezes before it’s done!!

Answer by Thomas M
My strong recommendation is to format your hard drive(s) and reinstall your operating system.
If you do not own a copy of the operating system that you wish to install, you should contact your computer vendor and request recovery discs; explain to them that your system is too far damaged to make them using the recovery CDs on your own. They should be more than happy to mail you the recovery discs for your computer ( though they may charge you shipping ).

Hope this helps, good luck!

Question by curiousx3: help with laptop and virus/program?
hi, i have two questions and one is
ive had the HP pavillion zv6000 for about 4 years
how much longer do you think my laptop will last if ive only been using it at home and dropped it about 4ish times?
it hasnt had a serious virus or anything
but i just wanted to know how much longer until i would have to buy another one

also
i have this constant pop up from the Security Center Alert about a program/software/virus named win32.zafi.b
and when i click enable protection, it pops up a page where i can download some type of protection
what is it and how can i get rid of it?
thank you :)

Answer by owsleyskid
I don’t know about the laptop question, but it sounds like you caught the SmitFraud virus. Antivirus 360, Spyware Guard 2008, Antivirus 2009 and many similar sounding programs are versions of the smitfraud virus. Most popular AntiVirus programs have trouble with it. There is a specific tool to address this problem. You can run it in scan mode first to make sure that this is the problem.

Go to this link:

http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

Download smitfraudfix.exe
Run it in safe mode in a command prompt window.
Don’t ever click on a popup “antivirus warning” unless the name of a program you have already installed is in the title area a the top of the window.

Command Prompt
Start > Run
type command
click enter
or
Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt

Drag the file icon into the Command Prompt window. The entire file path should appear.
Hit enter to run.

Safe mode
Restart the machine.
Press F8 before the Windows StartUp screen appears.
The boot choices menu should appear.
Press the number for the safe mode option.

Question by Blossom Beauty: unknown virus stored in my laptop, Please help me…!!!?
hi friends,
i have installed xp in ,my laptop, while downloadind drives files for my laptop, some kind of chineese webpages stored in my desktop, it cant be deleted, also many ie shortcuts stored in laptop. kindly help me to clear this virus. i used flasget( software is used to download files faster) to download driver files. Please help me, very urgent.

Best answer:

Answer by Abz
drivers are available from the manufacturer’s website at fast speeds anyway,
i would always be careful when using accelerators from unknown sources,
CNET is a good reliable source for clean software,
if you are sure it’s a virus, there is something called “malwarebytes” which has a free version which usually does the job well, especially works with adware and certain viruses that most antiviruses can’t remove.
but considering it’s a fresh install, i would assume you haven’t put a lot of work on there, so i would reinstall and install microsoft security essentials before installing anything.
saves a lot of hard work and re-infection from hidden left over cookies afterwards,
peace,

Question by CallMeCrazy: Laptop issues. Virus or hardware?
So ive had my HP g60 (235dx i believe) for about 2 1/2 years and starting around the beginning of the semester ive been having major problems with it. Every day without fail it will just randomly turn to a blue screen and say a bunch of stuff that i never have enough time to read but it says something about crash dump. blah blah blah. Then immediately after it will go to a black screen and say no bootable devices. insert disk and press any key to continue. So i have to shut it down again and restart and its usually good for a while. Lately its been happening at least twice a day now. And just a little while ago i got a new message after all this. Black screen again saying something about file C and not being consistent or something. I have mcafee which we get for free through our internet provider. I also have malwarebytes anit malware and scanned it and it found nothing. Im currently scanning with avast. Its getting frustrating and i asked my boyfriend for a new laptop for christmas but if it is a virus, i would like to prevent it in the future. It kindof sucks when you have an antivirus but its basically useless. Any idea what is wrong? and what should I do as far as antivirus programs to prevent this in the future? Any tips or advice is welcome.

Answer by ill44
Sounds like the hard drive has errors on it, or its starting to die

as soon as i turn my computer on it says that i have 791 threats and this thing called winifighter pops up and says that i have two viruses, after that my computer freezes, and i cant even get access to the internet. i tried to scan my computer in safe mode but it is useless. what do i do?

Best answer:

Answer by Bizzy M
Actually…winifighter IS the virus. It’s just a malware. Try getting MalwareByte anti malware, it’s free. Run it in safemode. If this does not work, try to get a Remover, like this :
